About Me

My photo
I am a second year student studying Game art Design at the Norwich University College of the Arts. Always loved to draw, which I've had a talent for from a young age. So now I think it is about time I started showing people my work.

Panda Man

I was quite excited about doing this character, because I fecking love pandas!
Kevin Blake was a military man, no mother, raised by a military father. He became one of the most ranked soldiers in the special air service, with a shining record and renown expertise in every field of warfare and combat. Midway through his career he got married to the woman he loved and had a son. He and his son however were never able to grow close, he was constantly going off for missions and when he was home he had the same stern military ways of his father. The only real connection he had with his son was the day he brought him back a present on his 4th birthday. A soft toy panda. 6 years later on the day of his retirement, he received a message from the 'Corporation'. It told him how he didn't have to leave his glory days back in the military, they could give him the means to serve his country beyond his current abilities. He struggled with the decision between family life and continuing his "career" and secretly gave in to the latter. Unknown to his family, he went to the 'Corporation' for their proposal. They had devised a series of drugs and chemicals that in theory would extend the life and enhance the human abilities of any man, in hopes of creating a finalized combined drug which they could use in the military to enhance every soldier. And with Blake's glorified past they believed him to be the perfect candidate for the initial tests. Blake agreed. For the next few months Blake kept returning for doses of chemicals and drugs, all potential ingredients for final product. In the final stages the 'Corporation' started testing a mind focusing drug, for heightening senses and controlling a soldiers directive. This worked so well that by the third dose Blake was a mindless super soldier, easily controlled and directed. This is what the 'Corporation' wanted, their experiment was a success. They had tricked blake, they did not want his conscience, they only wanted his body and skills, they had turned him into a weapon. They dressed him in a high tech prototype soldier suit and prepped him for transport as an example sales pitch to foreign military interests in the east, their true intention from the start. Not to raise suspicion of Blake's disappearance, they Burned down his family home, with his wife, son and a planted unidentifiable body inside. Their plan was foiled very soon however. Half way through the transport to his air departure Blake broke free! Unknown to the 'Corporation' they had not removed Blake's conscience but only suppressed it and was aware of everything that had happened from the moment he lost control of his own body. The drugs had warn off and with his new enhanced self he was able to break free. He ran across half the country to get to his Family but he was too late. All he found was his little boys toy panda half burned. His mind twisted by the drugs and chemicals, driven half mad by the loss of his family, he vowed revenge. He modified his suit, took on the image of a panda, the only connection he had to his son. He shall take his pain and make it theirs.

Powers: The upper limits of his abilities wore off with the drugs but they left permanent effects (including his deranged insanity) enhanced strength, enhanced speed, enhanced senses, enhanced healing and slow molecular again. Also an ex SAS combat expert crossed with the mind of a insane sociopath bent on revenge is pretty handy.

You like? I've decided to make the 'Corporation' a residing villain throughout all the origin stories Im going to write.

Been way too long!

So, I've been busy with many things since my last post. Not all of them constructive :P but I have finally finished my latest uni project so I now have time to actually update my blog with my most recent work :D Firstly, Its seems pretty obvious that I like comic books. And after reading a good amount, especially in the past 2 years, I have a pretty decent grasp on what makes a good comic book character. The various archetypes and cliches are almost endless when you go into finer detail.
So I have set my self a challenge, not only to develop my drawing skills but also my ideas of solid character creation. This challenge is "Hero in a day". Basically, I have to illustrate and write and origin of a hero (or villain) with in 24 hours. This will be an ongoing project for me so every now and then I will update my blog with the latest character and back ground. Enjoy :D feed back would be great as well.
